Wow! Today is August 3rd. I am coming into the week off of celebrating my 6th wedding anniversary. It was nice to take a couple of days off to celebrate. I have been working nonstop hoping we will meet the deadline I made for myself, so it was very much needed to turn off the cell phone, back away from the dry goods cabinet, and release my talons from the laptop. We spent the day making sun catchers, playing video games, and enjoying delicious sushi from our favorite local spot. Now that I feel rejuvenated, I am ready to get this week going!
My first blog post will just be a little about me, how we even got here, and what I hope this will become! Then I will be primarily posting recipes, and maybe writing about things in the business and life from time to time along the way! I also make and sell art here, so I will likely write about some of the behind the scenes for that too, as I explore different mediums and things that I think you will love, and want to share with your loved ones.
I always feel weird introducing myself. It feels like when you are in school and are asked to go around the room and share a fun fact for yourself. (I'm trying to figure out a comment section. I'm not super techy. If I manage this, I'd love to see a comment about a fun fact you like to share with people! Help a socially awkward girl out please!) Then you spend almost no time hearing what anyone else is saying because "what is a fun fact that people will actually enjoy"? All that to say, bear with me here! I have a tendency to ramble, and I am not ashamed of it, however; I have been told it can be off-putting at times. (If you're a TLDR fan, go ahead and jump down to the end if that is easier for you.) If you like what you read here, or you like recipes (I know that's the REAL reason you are here!) stick around and I will be happy to regale you with yummy cookie recipes, baked goods, and other fun stuff that falls out of my head and into this blog. Buckle up and enjoy the next bits! I look forward to seeing what all of this can become.
Hi all! I am Bee, the owner and founder of Bizzy Bee Services. I am originally an Oklahoma transplant, but I have been living in the Vegas Valley for about 20 years now. I am happily married since 2020 to my wonderful husband and business partner Evan. He is my taste tester, and sometimes videographer/ photographer! We live a very simple and quiet life, and that's just how we like it. I often am found in my sewing room/art space, in my garden, in my kitchen trying a new recipe or writing a theoretical one in my office, usually the most likely is playing some kind of videogame. When I'm out of the house, I'm probably at an antique store in Boulder City, or wandering somewhere on Water Street looking at all the pretty murals.
The story about how we got here is a master class on just trusting your gut and that if you don't listen, life, the universe, God, Allah, or whatever higher power (if any) you believe in will make you listen. If you don't, you spend many years feeling like you are chasing your tail and getting punched in the head. I have worked in a lot of different industries and have tried to wear many hats. I have been falling in and out of jobs for years. The only things that stayed constant are a love of people, teaching, cooking, and baking when I was off the clock through that time.
I loved to research and try new recipes. I would often buy random ingredients to test out and see how they would work with other things. It was my peaceful break from reality when I felt like I was suffocating under the weight of life's responsibilities. I would get in the kitchen with a mixing bowl and a hope and just sing and enjoy myself. I loved baking for friends' birthdays at work, family events, and just to make people feel a little better when life was getting them down. It was a love language for me. I'd bring a warm baked treat anytime I wanted to let people know they matter to me.
When I was sitting at my last job daydreaming about getting out, I kept feeling like it was time to finally do it after years of thinking it over. I had all but convinced myself in 2025 to start looking into starting a bakery, but I just kept letting that mean little voice that says "You're not THAT good" ruin my plans and talk me out of just taking the plunge. I listened to that little voice at first. I tried to tough it out. Maybe I could make a 9-5 work if I got out of customer service and into another day job? Surely something less sales heavy would make me happy, right? Maybe it was just the company! I ended up spending 5 years trying my best. It just didn't make me happy. There is some truth to the "happiness is a mindset" crowd, but in this situation it felt like the clouds were never going to part. I found refuge once again in my kitchen.
In previous years, when I was not pleased with what the company did, I'd say "Hey at least it pays the bills!" but when October hit, I was laid off with like 300 other people. The whole department was just gone like we never existed. No warning, some of us didn't even see the formal video. It was completely disrespectful. It was clearly no longer paying the bills. I had to get creative and fast. A couple of weeks later, I got a call and was offered a job at a pay rate that was less than I had been making prior and struggling to squeak by on. I had to have a job, so I took it, grateful that I didn't have to worry about jobhunting in a mostly AI fake post job market. It was starting to feel really scary on the job hunt front!
As you may have guessed it was not a fit for me. I am not a natural born salesman, and I'm not even really a trained salesman! That is not the shortcoming of any of my trainers. I just don't like pushing people into decisions they aren't 100% sure of, and that is how it felt for me in that career path. The sink or swim time had come, and I was not sinking just yet, but the treading was exhausting. I ended up having to leave so I could get out of the cycle of working a job that I was not good at and not happy in just for sake of retiring and still being broke in 30 years.
I couldn't envision myself putting in 5 more years where I get off work and just want to sit in silence and darkness, staring at a wall; let alone another 30. Some could argue for a shift in perspective here, but I tried to for a few months and it led to me being a burnt-out hermit who didn't want to talk to, see, or even think about my friends and family because the customer base of the company I worked for were typically generally unkind and impatient. I started to look at everyone through this jaded lens, and realized I had a problem. My social interactions felt more transactional than they did organic and I was tired of it. I heard "The Customer Service Song" by Sophie Lanuza and sobbed because it felt like she was telling my story. I didn't feel human anymore. More machine than man, I had to figure something out to stop the loop.
I tried therapy. I tried stress toys. More coffee, more exercise, more water, more walks, and more reflective journaling later, it was time to hang up my blue polo and decide what I want my life to look like. I don't want to be on my deathbed thinking about life as a "life is work, then you die," situation. I wanted to do something I knew I would eventually be proud I did, even if I fall on my butt. Some people have told me I'm being crazy because there is no safety net, but I say I'm being hopeful and doing it scared. :) Worst case I am that old lady that gets to say "Hey kid, did I ever tell you about when I ran my own company?" when I get older. I think that sounds pretty cool to me! It has been a few months of trying to learn things on the fly, and hoping for the best! What a fun adventure it has been!
What do I want this to be eventually? That's what I'm still working on a bit of admittedly. I want to continue to expand and grow in the bakery items and other sweet treats I can offer. I want to continue to explore what arts and handcrafted items I enjoy making. I would also like to eventually get set up for notary services, but I'm still learning about that, so don't hold me to that too strongly just yet. I will update via a post on my socials and here if/when that day comes. While I do want to sell my treats from my home, I also want to ensure that my long-distance besties can enjoy and share these same awesome treats with their loved ones even if they live somewhere I am not able to provide goodies for! I will be working on a YouTube with tips and recipes as well. In the future, I hope to sell at the craft fairs on Water Street in Henderson, and possibly find other nice events to go to within the Clark County area. Honestly with all of this, I'm just looking to do a job that makes me wake up loving life a little more instead of dreading another 40 hour work week! Follow along if you would like to see where we go! Hopefully this time next year, we are doing something fun to celebrate!
Thanks again for stopping in. We hope to help you find some joy today! Please check back occasionally for fun new arrivals, new menus and more!
